I would have voted for this, Connie. I found your reminiscing humorous and sweet, and the poetry exceptional and touching. I’ve written several such poems about my own family and the ethnic characters that inhabit that world. Well done, indeed!! 🙏
Thank you, Christopher! It's encouraging to read that you enjoyed the poem and that it reminded you of your own writing. I'd love to read those poems about your family.
There are many lessons about the writing life that I have to learn over and over (and over), and one of them is that contests are often not actually looking for the best work. Not winning is not a reflection on the quality of this fun, skillful, and unique piece. It just means the judges had different priorities. Or bad taste. <3
Thank you, Kate! I appreciate that a judge's taste is very subjective and humour is a difficult one to gauge. The important thing is that I had fun writing this poem, and now I get to share it with my favourite people.
Conny, you’ve made a work of art so singular and gorgeously detailed. And yet, you also somehow evoke that universal yearning that young hearts so naturally and intensely feel as expressed in an intense crush-- the longing for the love of an ideal person. This is vivid and strong work! Thank you for sharing it.
Thank you, Ann! It was something different for me to try. So, the contest acted as a catalyst for me to expand my creativity. That can never be a bad thing.
This was too good for that lame ass contest. You transformed this into a magical experience.
Awww, thanks so much for that lovely comment! I took a true story and just rolled with it :)

Doesn't matter that you didn't win the contest Conny. It's a lovely poem!
Thank you, Dominic! That's very kind of you.
My pleasure Conny!
